How to Live Luxuriously and Deliberately
I like nice things: pretty dresses, candles that burn clean, and decadent foods that aren’t cost effective to make at home.
I don’t worry so much about lifestyle creep; I worry about lifestyle leap.
And one way that I try to avoid a dramatic shift in spending is by upgrading my life in subtle, but consistent ways. Living luxuriously can certainly be about vacations and spa treatments, but it can also be a matter of discerning which daily investments will make you feel more in control.
And after seeing my husband get excited over a quality travel mug, I’ve realized the secret is to upgrade the things you touch on a daily basis. Literally touch.
I have grouped my favorite touch points by their respective categories.
Reduce frustration:
- Adding a Popsocket or other good phone support
- Getting a pump dispenser for body wash
- Glass shower door or fresh shower curtains
You need them no matter what, so they may as well not suck:
- A sunscreen you want to use
- Face moisturizer that makes your skin feel hydrated
- Shampoo and conditioner you actually like
- Good toothbrush
- Soft bedsheets
- Nice waterproof gloves - I used to wonder: do I hate the cold or do I just have bad gloves? I definitely hate the cold, but at least I have better gloves now.
Because we all want to feel like a real adult
- Designated hair towels (soft, microfiber)
- Soft pajamas
- Really quality glassware and mugs
